Plasterboard Stopping
Plasterboard Stopping- Levels of finish
A quality interior plastering finish produces a smooth finish for the final step of painting. It is therefore highly recommended that stopping is performed by experienced and qualified people. This will ensure the work carried out is done efficiently and inline with BCITO standards.
Here are the finishes below: Stopping Levels
Level 3 - Used in areas that do not require a paint finish i.e. Level 4 finish. Area's above ceiling level or tiled, Fyreline walls.
Level 4 - Is the most common finish for new and existing walls/ceilings where a flat or low sheen paint is used.
*note - where critical lighting conditions when the light source is nearly parallel to the surface, surface imperfections may still be seen in a level 4 finish.
Level 5 - Where gloss or semi-gloss paints are specified i.e. bathrooms, or where critical lighting conditions occur on flat or low sheen paints i.e. lounge with floor to ceiling windows and sunlight.
*note - some minor imperfections may be visible.
GibCove - Cove can be used instead of timber scotia or square stopped corners and is available in 55mm, 75mm and 90mm sizes. Different sizes are used dependent on ceiling heights and design of each project. A small cove on a 3 mtr high ceiling may look unproportioned to the rest of the room or to low on a 2.4mtr ceiling.
Square Stopping - The space between the wall and ceiling is stopped to create a clean square line as used in the photo below and is often used in new home builds and architectual homes.
Decorative Cornice - Unlike Gibcove there are many moulds of decorative cornice that can be used which come in many different shapes and sizes. Which can be used in new and existing projects.

It would be advised all furniture and personal items that are in the areas needing work done, are either moved to a place safe of plaster/dust or removed completely to allow the job to smoothly.
Floors needing to be covered from plaster and dust will be supplied with drop sheets before starting each job.
Its the small details that count:
All stopping tools are either removed from site or packed away tidily daily.
Working site is kept clean and tidy and checked regularly throughout the job.
Commercial vacuum sanding machines are used to eliminate the majority of dust that is created from the final sand.
On completion of all jobs, site is left clean and tidy.
